Originally known as the Sunrise Shopping Center, in 1980 the center was enclosed, redeveloped and renamed The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale.

As South Florida's premier shopping center, The Galleria was anchored by Saks Fifth Avenue, Burdines and Jordan Marsh. Neiman Marcus was added in 1982 and Lord & Taylor in 1983. Dillard's opened its first South Florida store at The Galleria in 1993 - two years after Jordan Marsh closed its doors.

Today, The Galleria at Fort Lauderdale is the largest and most popular upscale regional shopping center in Broward County. The center is a retail hub which attracts shoppers from throughout the Fort Lauderdale metropolitan area and from around the world. The Galleria provides two spectacular levels of world-class shopping, glamorous style, outstanding stores and first-class service. Four select department stores- Macy's - Neiman Marcus - Dillard's - and Saks Fifth Avenue - anchor The Galleria. A sample of the elite selection of specialty shops includes Godiva Chocolatier, Bebe, Coach Leather, Mayor's Jewelers, Pottery Barn, Williams-Sonoma, Cole Haan, J.Crew, Swarovski, Apple, Ann Taylor, Sharper Image, Banana Republic & more.
